CANADIAN MARTYRS PARISH ORGANIZATIONS
In the 60 years that the parish has been in existence, its members, through their participation in various organizations, have contributed greatly to the spiritual and temporal welfare of the community. Over the years, these organizations have taken a wide variety of forms while responding to the needs of the parishioners and to the changes in religious practices, particularly those brought about by Vatican 11. Operating under the spiritual direction and guidance of a succession of devoted pastors, the parish organizations have fostered a spirit which marks Canadian Martyrs parish as a good place to live and to worship.
It was because of the more dependent nature of living in the early days that a number of church organizations saw their beginnings; they flourished through the strong leadership of clergy and lay church members. With the changes in society and shifting needs of the parish, some organizations endured with needed changes, while others became inactive with their major activities being taken over by other groups.
The Catholic Women's League
The Ottawa East Subdivision of the Catholic Women's League of Canada was organized in December 1923 in the Holy Family Parish. The League moved to Canadian Martyrs Parish when the parish was established in 1930. The objectives of the League are to unite Catholic women in a bond of fellowship for the furtherance of religious, cultural and intellectual interests and the development of social action.

The late Mrs. T.S. Patterson received the Papal Bene Merente Medal in recognition of her outstanding service as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Patrick's Home and Mrs. T.E. McManus was granted a life membership in the National Council in 1973 in recognition of her service to the League in a diocesan and national capacity.
The Catholic Women's League is no longer active in Canadian Martyrs Parish.
